In a Social Security Disability or SSI claim what is sedentary work?

Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time maximum and occasionally (up to 1/3 of a day) lifting and carrying articles like files, ledgers and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is necessary in carry out job duties. Generally, this means sitting 6 hours a day and not walking or standing more than 2 hours of the work day.
