If You Have Been Denied Social Security Benefits, You Need Experienced Legal Help

If you have suffered a disabling illness or injury and can no longer work, you may qualify for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSD or SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. If you have worked, you have paid into this system throughout your life. It is reasonable to expect that SSD or SSI benefits will be there when you need them.

Unfortunately, getting SSD when you need it is not always easy.

It is not uncommon to be denied on your first application. The Social Security Administration (SSA) does a poor job of explaining to people what they need to do to prove their case for benefits. Even if you have the help of a doctor or other medical professional, you are still likely to have your SSD or SSI claim rejected.

That is when you need to contact an experienced Social Security lawyer like myself, attorney William C. Wombacher. I have been helping people file for reconsideration and further appeals for more than 30 years. I am a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR).

I can explain what the Social Security Administration is actually looking for when it reviews claims. I can help you get the medical or mental health information you need to prove your case. Contact my law office in Peoria for a free consultation.

Stages of a Social Security Disability or SSI Claim

There are several stages to the SSD/SSI claim and appeal process:

  1. The first step is your initial application. Most people file their initial claim on their own.
  2. If your initial claim is denied, you can file for a reconsideration of your case. You have a limited time to ask for reconsideration of your case. This is an excellent time to involve an attorney.
  3. If you are denied at this stage, we can request a hearing. It is extremely important to involve an attorney before you go to that hearing. If we are going to make a difference in the outcome of your case, this is the best time to do it.
  4. If you are denied at the hearing stage, we can bring an appeal to the Appeals Council for an administrative review. I handle administrative appeals only for clients I have represented at the hearing stage.
  5. The final stage of appeal is a judicial review in federal court.

Getting You the Resources You Need

An important part of helping my clients succeed in their Social Security hearings and appeals is helping them document their injury or disability appropriately. I will work with your doctors and hospitals to get the medical information that the SSA is looking for. If your medical providers do not provide adequate documentation, I will help you find the services you need to build your case.

Many of my clients are facing difficult financial times. I can refer you to free and low-cost resources in the community that can help you get the treatment and medication you need.
